Contract content

Article 1: Marriage agreed: within three months, with dispensation from the Pope

Article 2: Dowry set at 500,000 ducats, payment arranged, interest on the sum set, obligation of Charles Emmanuel to acknowledge receipt

Article 3: Catherine’s renunciation of inheritance settled, formal declaration of renunciation required within two days of the marriage, exception stipulated in the event of the extinction of Philip’s descendants, in the event of Catherine’s succession to the Spanish throne: obligation to preserve the traditional legal status in the Spanish kingdoms

Article 4: in the event of dissolution of the marriage without children from the marriage: return of the dowry within one year agreed

Article 5: in the event that Catherine has no children from the marriage and no other relatives entitled to inherit, her free right to dispose of her dowry is guaranteed: with the exception of those assets which were bequeathed to her by her father, which revert to Spain; if she dies without leaving a will: reversion of the entire dowry

Article 6: Dowry share determined as life annuity; Catherine is granted the right to the sum regardless of whether children are born from the marriage and regardless of whether she remains a widow after Charles Emmanuel’s death or remarries

Article 7: If Catherine predeceases Charles Emmanuel, their children shall inherit the dowry; if there are no children, it shall revert to the Duke and his descendants

Article 8: Dowry and trousseau of the bride’s residence regulated; after Katharina’s death: reversion of the dowry to Karl Emanuel or his heirs

Article 9: Katharina’s sole ownership rights to the jewels and treasures she brought with her, as well as to movable and immovable property acquired during the marriage, are guaranteed

Article 8: Catherine’s maintenance is specified, income during the marriage is regulated

Article 9: Charles Emmanuel is obliged to make a written declaration regarding Catherine’s maintenance in advance of the marriage

Article 10: Catherine’s right of return as a widow is guaranteed, the accompaniment of her court is regulated, and the continuation of her income from the investment of her dowry in the event of her return to Spain is regulated

Article 11: Security for her life annuity is guaranteed, and comprehensive regulations for the secure investment of her dowry are established
