Contract content

Article 1: Marriage in Madrid agreed: with papal dispensation due to the degree of kinship of the spouses, with procurator for the Dauphin

Article 2: Dowry determined (500.000 escudos)

Article 3: Regulation of dowry investment in France, repayment to the infanta or her legal successors in the event of dissolution of the marriage

Article 4: in return for dowry, María Teresa renounces her inheritance, formal renunciation of rights and ratification regulated in advance of the marriage

Article 5: As stipulated in the Peace Treaty of Utrecht (1713) and earlier treaties for the good of Europe, María Teresa and all her descendants are forever excluded from succession to the throne of Spain and all Spanish territories, unless she succeeds to the throne as a widow without natural descendants

Article 6: Formal and legally binding declaration of María Teresa’s renunciation of succession to the throne agreed upon: to be made before marriage, ratification by France and Spain stipulted

Article 7: Bridal gifts from the French king determined at 50,000 escudos, with regulation of María Teresa and her heir’s right of ownership

Article 8: Dowager´s livelihood and dower determined, María Teresa’s right to fill vacant offices on the dower lands regulated, but offices may only be given to subjects of the French crown; administration of the dower lands regulated

Article 9: Sustenance of María Teresa and her court regulated for the time of the marriage

Article 10: Arrangement of María Teresa’s voyage to her husbad´s court in France

Article 11: Upon becoming a dowager, she has the free choice of place for her dowager’s residence and the right to return to Spain, her mobile property and servants to be taken with her

Article 12: Ratification regulated

Regulations concerning succession and regency: Article 5: As stipulated in the Peace Treaty of Utrecht (1713) and earlier treaties for the good of Europe, María Teresa and all her descendants are forever excluded from succession to the throne of Spain and all Spanish territories, unless she succeeds to the throne as a widow without natural descendants
