Contract content

Preamble: Names of the parties; purpose of the marriage; names of the authorised officials

Article 1: Mutual consent to marry declared; papal dispensation granted

Article 2: Marriage to take place per procurationem in Naples

Article 3: After the wedding ceremony, the time frame for the bride’s departure shall be determined

Article 4: Dowry settled: in the amount of 200,000 guilders; trousseau settled

Article 5: The dowry is increased by a further 60,000 guilders; investment settled; provision regarding the dowry in the event of the death of a spouse

Article 6: Renunciation of inheritance by the bride regulated

Article 7: A secundogeniture is to be established in the Grand Duchy of Tuscany; several documents supporting its establishment are cited; maintenance of the bride regulated: pin money in the amount of 30,000 guilders; stables, servants and the bride’s table do not have to be paid for by him

Article 8: Morning gift set at 30,000 guilders

Article 9: Bride’s life estate regulated: in the event of the groom’s death, the widow shall receive 60,000 guilders annually

Article 10: Widow’s residence regulated: free choice of the bride; trousseau regulated

Article 11: If the bride dies before the groom: the groom’s right of use of the dowry; if no heirs have been begotten, the bride may dispose of one third of the dowry by will
