Contract content

Preamble (67f.): To the praise and glory of God, out of mutual affection between the contracting parties, for the benefit of the countries and subjects of the contracting parties, following the groom’s courtship of the bride’s father and the Emperor: marriage agreed, terms of contract announced

Article 1 (68): Consent for the bride granted, dowry determined: plus dowry allowance, trousseau regulated, payment regulated

Article 2 (68): Consent of the groom granted, donatio propter nuptias and widow’s income determined, morning gift determined – widow’s property suspended: with the consent of the Emperor, rights of use regulated, rights of sovereignty reserved

Article 3 (68f.): Deed of prescription assured to the bride’s father: to determine homage of subjects to the bride’s widow’s property, rights of use of the bride, accepted by the bride’s father, compensation for defects regulated

Article 4 (69): After the death of the bride before the groom: lifelong continued use of the dowry by the groom regulated, inheritance of dowry allowance, morning gift, bride’s jewellery regulated

Article 5 (69f.): After the death of the bride without children: lifelong continued use of the dowry by the groom regulated, transfer of dowry allowance to the groom regulated

Article 6 (70): In the event of the death of the groom without children: transfer of dowry, dowry allowance, morning gift to the bride regulated, lifelong continued use of the donatio propter nuptias by the bride regulated, redemption of the groom’s movable estate by the groom’s heirs regulated

Article 7 (70): Renunciation of inheritance by the bride: in return for dowry, paternal and maternal inheritance, except after the extinction of the House of Austria in the male line, with the consent and ratification of the groom

Article 8 (70): Wedding ceremony, consummation set for 18 July 1546 in Regensburg

Article 9 (70f.): In the event of the death of a spouse before the wedding: contract declared null and void
